The rollout of 5G services by Vodafone Idea (Vi) will be influenced by factors such as use cases, customer demand, competition, and more, said Managing Director and CEO Ravinder Takker on Monday at the company’s 27th Annual General Meeting (AGM). Takker disclosed that Vi has already invested Rs. 4,940 crore and is actively seeking additional capital from investors. Vi recently submitted a bid to purchase 5G spectrum airwaves in India, which reportedly increased the company’s annual instalment cost to Rs. 1,680 crore.

According to the Press Trust of India, Vi has suggested elevating Akshaya Moondra, its chief financial officer, to the position of firm CEO while demoting Takker to the position of non-executive director. During the Indian 5G spectrum auction, the telecom company purchased 5G spectrum worth Rs. 18,800 crore. These comprise the 26GHz bands in 16 circles and the 3.3GHz band in 17 priority circles.

During the AGM meeting on Monday, Takker added, “5G roll-out would depend on numerous elements such as how use cases emerge, customer demand, capacity requirements, as well as competition dynamics.”
